Socio-cultural Education in Local Context

Aizkraukle regional Adult education and Innovation assistance centre (AEIAC) was established in 1996 and it is located in Aizkraukle – in the Zemgale Region.
AEIAC is an institution, which realise non-formal adult education in rural areas and support human resources development in region. AEC cooperate with 21 local municipalities to educate different target groups (local municipality staff, unemployed people, young people, senior citizens, NGO-s leaders etc.).
AEC offers different courses and seminars: Personal development, Civil society, Rural development, Planning and strategy, Computer skills teaching and Internet using, Project leading, Business basic, Team building, English and Germany Languages, Management etc.
AEC is involved in different projects on local, regional and national level. Part of the education approach is the participation of social excluded groups to participate in society.
To facilitate development of formal and non-formal education AEIAC cooperate with institutions like Latvia Adult Education Association, Zemgale NGO centre, Unemployment department, regional schools, culture establishments, rural NGO-s. AEIAC has good collaboration partners also abroad: in Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Italy and Portugal.

Current situation in socio-cultural education.
The main idea of the ”Lifelong Learning Development Programme of Aizkraukle District for 2007 – 2010”, that was worked out in 2007 by financial support of the ESF, is improving of human resources professional and social competences for the labour market.
Necessity of non-formal Education in the socio-cultural field is not defined. There are some Language courses with disposition to socio-cultural education and Art courses for immigrants.
